vision

Parkview's purpose statement or vision is to constantly and consistently seek the will of God. While the world may conceive its own vision for a company or organization, Parkview deliberately seeks to discover the will of God. In that discovery comes the revelation of what God wants.

Our vision is not what our leaders have generated to be a goal or a dream. Instead, our vision refers to what God has revealed and promised about the future. Our vision is to seek the Father's Will and then adjust our lives accordingly. That vision is found in Jesus words, "Not as I will but as You will!"

beliefs
•      The Bible is the Word of God, supernaturally inspired, so that it is perfect in the original manuscripts and preserved by God, so that it is a divinely authoritative standard for every age and every life.
(1 Corinthians 2:7-14; 2 Peter 1:20-21; 2 Timothy 3:16)

•     The Godhead exists eternally in three persons—Father, Son and Holy Spirit—and that these three are one God.
(Matthew 28:19; John 14:16-26; 16:7-15)

•     God is the absolute and sole creator of the universe, and creation was by divine decree, not through an evolutionary process.
(Genesis 1:1-25; John 1:1-3)

•     Jesus Christ in the flesh was both God and man; He was born of a virgin; He lived a sinless life, in which He taught and wrought mighty works and wonders and signs exactly as revealed in the four Gospels; He was crucified and died as a penalty for our sins; His body was raised from the dead on the third day. Later He ascended to the Father’s right hand where He is head of the church and intercedes for believers, and from whence He is coming again personally, physically, and visibly to this earth.
(Philippians 2:5-8; 1 Corinthians 15:3-5; 1 Thessalonians 4:15-17; John 14:1-6)

•     Christ’s death, by blood shed, made a perfect atonement for sin. We are saved, justified, and sanctified on the simple ground of the shed blood.
(Hebrews 9:11-14; Galatians 3:13-14; 1 Corinthians 6:9-11;
Romans 8:31-34)

•     Salvation with its forgiveness of sins, its imparting of a new nature, and its hope of eternal life is the pure grace of God.
(1 John 1:8-10; 2 Corinthians 5:17; Ephesians 2:8-9)

•     The process of becoming a Christian includes belief, confession and trust (faith) in the person of Jesus as the Christ (Romans 10:9-13) and the process is completed when we repent of our sins and are buried in Christian immersion. (Acts 2:36-39; Romans 6:1-7)

•     It is the goal of every Christian to grow in spiritual maturity through obedience to the Word of God and the indwelling Spirit.
(Ephesians 4:11-16; 1 Corinthians 1:9-12; Colossians 1:9-12, 28)
parkview story
The Parkview congregation was born from the vision of the Central Church of Christ in Findlay, Ohio. Under the leadership of Harry McFadden, minister, the Central congregation began planning for a new church in the northeast section of Findlay in the early 1950’s. In 1955, four lots were purchased at the corner of Winfield Avenue and Vincent Street.

A committee was formed and met several times to prepare for the future church. The Parkview congregation met for the first time on January 5, 1958, in the Zola Jacobs School building, with 34 persons placing membership and one being baptized. James Irby, the minister at Central Church at that time, did the preaching at Parkview and Central for a few months.

In March of 1958, Don Boyer, who was the associate minister at Central Church of Christ, was called to be the first full-time minister for Parkview Church of Christ. Groundbreaking for the new building was on April 14, 1958. By November, the congregation was able to meet in the new building, which was only partially completed.

By the early 1970’s, the Parkview congregation had grown to fill the church to capacity, and it was determined that a new facility was needed for continued growth. During the ministry of Don Bullock, the congregation voted in 1972 to build an addition with a larger sanctuary and a fellowship hall. The addition, seating approximately 350 in the sanctuary, was dedicated on May 27, 1973.

By the early 1990’s, the church building was again approaching capacity use and the congregation began planning for future growth. During the tenure of senior minister Mark Snavely, the church purchased in 1991 a 10-acre property on the corner of State Route 12 and County Road 236. The new location would provide greater visibility and easier access for the church and was in an area where population growth was occurring.

In 1996, under the direction of senior minister Ken Hasekamp, a successful capital campaign was conducted and ground broken for the present facility on May 18, 1997. Constructed largely with volunteer labor, the structure took two and a half years to complete.

Recently, the congregation voted to change the name of the church to Parkview Christian Church and beginning February 1, 2006, the new name is being used. Neil Norheim came to be the senior minister in June of 2004 and with our Elders, he is seeking God for the future direction of Parkview Christian Church and the impact it will make in the Hancock County area for the Kingdom of God.
